Hopefully the websites will work; they've been having spotty service because they've been accessed a TON today, and good for them. A lot of the stuff involved is triggery as hell, though, so make sure you're in a good headspace to handle that before you try to look.

A thank-you message is up over at Donate JDM! I still cannot believe that $12,000 was raised. Apparently that's enough to feed the dogs for a year!!

"Savun, 41 year old, is a fisherman. His wife makes fish paste to sell. Their income is $11 per day. He has five children. Three of the children are studying, one is working and one more fishes with him. Every month, he has to spend $50 on food, $10 on electricity, and $40 on school fees. He would like to request a loan of $1,000 to buy fishing equipment for doing fishing. He has a plan for his wife to buy clothes to sell in the market so that she can make more income than in her previous career. Then they would be able to send the rest of their children to study in the university when they finish high school."

45% of the money has been raised so far. :-)

The winning bid for the lunch with JDM/Magic City set visit auction! Wow.

I would like to take this opportunity to say congratulations to the winner, and also beg to stow away in your luggage. ;-)

Visit with the family went great-- we went up there as a surprise for my grandmother's 80th birthday. :-) Also, I went about four times to this absolutely fantastic bookstore called Frugal Muse.

I am so, sooooo glad to be home, though. The kids are glad, too. They were really well-behaved, but a 12-hour drive is definitely hard on a 3-year old and an eleven-month old.

In other news, the bidding on the 'lunch-and-set-visit with Jeffrey Dean Morgan' auction is up over $1,000 already, with four days left. I am totally not surprised by this. Within the next four days, I need to win the lottery.

Now, off to catch up with my friends-list!

"Win a visit to the Magic City set and lunch with Jeff for you and a friend!

That's right. In appreciation for the incredible support his fans have shown through DonateJDM.org for the past 3 years, Jeff is donating a set visit to his new series Magic City and LUNCH WITH HIM for auction this year. The auction item will include 2 nights hotel lodging in Miami for the winning fan and their guest, a set visit to see Jeff working on Magic City, lunch with him, and much more. This item will KICK OFF the DonateJDM.org Great Jeffrey Dean Morgan Birthday Auction next week (rather than finish it), so keep your eyes peeled to the DonateJDM.org website and Twitter feed (@DonateJDM) for more details."

People, please tell me that it would not be a good idea to sell my internal organs on the black market to earn money for this.

I don't use the word 'heartwarming' very often; when I do I'm usually being sarcastic. Not this time. I hadn't ever been to this blog before, but I'll definitely be checking it out now. That community is wonderful.

From [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]---

"[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] needs a hysterectomy to keep an unpleasant medical condition from becoming a life-threatening one (it's already most of the way there) and she can't, because she doesn't have health insurance.

Why doesn't she have health insurance? Because she's self-employed, and as many self-employed creative people (she's an artist and writer) know all too well, when you have to choose between eating and having a place to sleep or having health insurance, the health insurance loses. I know this, because the hubby and I have been paying for self-employment health benefits for most of this decade, watching the cost go higher and higher while the benefits get lower and lower. We pay more for health insurance than we do for shelter, but live in terror of not having it, just in case. Because not having it could mean complete financial ruin, and destroy our children's future. It's freaking scary.

So, anyway. She needs $2700.00 for the operation, or she has to wait for her condition to become life-threatening. (It will get there long before she could save up that much, especially since she has $8,000.00 in medical bills from just having it diagnosed.)"

Here's a link to an organization I just found out about: V-Day. There's also a link to Doctors Without Borders there.

Found out about V-Day thanks to this entry from the kickass [livejournal.com profile] ursulav.
