I'm not even gonna touch on the actual gist of the post, because I think you've got the subject firmly under control. :D
I am gonna comment on the tv show aspect, though. Have you seen the episode or seen any non-biased recaps of it? I definitely think you shouldn't take fan based comments into account when deciding whether you will watch the show because fans are GOING to defend it. They will justify and they will rationalize. Both because they love the characters and because they don't want to believe that there is such evils out in there in the types of people you can make a show about.
What I wonder is if it's possible that somewhere along the lines, the actual gist of what happened was blurred. Because regardless of the realities of rape, there are just some people out there that will claim something is rape, even though it isn't. (These are the kinds of people that have turned victims into people society doesn't tend to trust.) Did he really rape her, or did she goad him into being rough with her? Because while rape victims don't ask for it, some women do ask for the pretense of being "had". And if that is all the show was going for, then it's a whole other ball of wax. I haven't seen it, or read anything on it, so I have no clue.
Just figured that you might want a positive ray of light that perhaps your show isn't as bad as you thought it might be. :D
