Going through my lj entries in order to put tags on all of them . . . found a link to this. Figured it was worth posting again. :-)
Christianity is not the problem. Selfish men and women willing to exploit anything and everything in their path to get where they want to be are the problem. People using their positions of power to force their beliefs down everyone else's throat are the problem regardless of what those beliefs may be. Corruption is the problem. Human greed is the problem. Christianity is just the window dressing it's wearing this time around because a Roman Emperor way back when saw the light and decreed that everyone else should, too.
You can find a case in any faith for why it's okay to kill, hate, oppress, and destroy. You can find a case in any faith for why those things are never acceptable. If you're looking for something, you'll find it, and you can use that discovery to build a case for yourself as to why other should feel the same. In the end, it has nothing to do with the faith at all, but rather what manipulative people are willing to do to get what they want from you, me, and everyone while convincing us that it really is our own idea and has been all along.
