I love seeing most of the wildlife that comes with living on the edge of town-- the deer, the raccoons, the manymany squirrels. However, I hate the spiders.

I walked into the bathroom yesterday evening and guess what's sitting next to the bathtub. It was smaller than some of the others we've had, but the coloring's the same. Fortunately, none of them have been spotted upstairs (where the bedroom is) or we'd be moving. ;-)

I managed to get a quick picture of this one. Then I beat it to death with my shoe.

Normally, I'm all for catch-and-release, but not in this case. I have never seen spiders move as fast as these do.

Um, I got no sense of scale on this side of the internet. How big is it compared to a quarter?

This one's body was about the same length as a quarter. Next time (since I'm unfortunately certain there will be a next time. :-P) I'll try to get something in the pic for scale purposes.

Eep. Still, at least it wasn't the size of a half dollar. Or a dollar bill.

Oh man. If the body had been the size of a dollar bill, I would still be sitting out on the porch clutching a frying pan. LOL

Friend of mine saw a wolf spider in her basement that was the size of her hand.

Quite literally. The body was the size of a half dollar.

She and her sister named it Henri. They were too impressed to want to kill it, at least at first.

But when Henri showed up with an egg sac...well, that's when their mother stomped the thing several times, then scooped up the remains with a paper towel and BURNED THEM.

Just to make sure.

Perfectly understandable. lol
