Help needed

From [livejournal.com profile] ginmar, reposted in entirety:

"[livejournal.com profile] ginamariewade is having some serious difficulties these days, guys. Her hubbie's in the hospital and they're facing over $200,000 in hospital bills. She's lost her job but she's looking. She's good people who's helped so many others herself, and if you could reach out a hand, it would be very appreciated. Her husband's insulin costs $100 a month, and while he's applying for SSI--they can't get medicaid. And SSI takes years. They need help with household bills---hell, with anything. They do not have health insurance and everything that can be cut out of the household budget has been. The only luxury they have right now is Netflix, and if anybody gives them any lip about that, I will take that personally.

Her paypal address is ginamariewade at windstream dot net

Can you help? Could you spread it around? She's also interested in job leads, although if it's not in Georgia, there has to be a really good reason to relocate. She's a social worker, which means basically she deserves combat pay, at least one medal per year, and God only knows how much because that job is amazingly hard. Help her if you can."

Can I just say that I am really sick and tired of these kind of posts? Not that people are posting them, but that they need to be posted at all. At least once a week someone on my f-list posts about a friend or family member or colleague who is seriously ill or has a family member who is seriously ill, and may die without treatment, and has no options, and blah blah blah. And meanwhile we have a bunch of douchehounds protesting attempts at getting these people medical care TO KEEP THEM FROM NOT DYING. I guess "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" only matters if you're rich and white.

Say it all you want; I know I'm sick of them, too. The idea of any kind of medical emergency terrifies me, because we're going paycheck-to-paycheck right now.

I hear you on the douchehounds. I had one guy the other day whine at me that I was a True Believer Obamabot because I told him I didn't care if the statistic was that 80% or 70% of people with no health insurance work full-time; the fact that there are people at all here with no net to help catch them is a disgrace. *eyeroll*

People are dying of fairly basic, fixable things because they don't have health care. People are going bankrupt to avoid dying of fairly basic, fixable things. People who do have, and who pay for, insurance find that their fairly basic, fixable things are not covered, so they have the choice of going into bankruptcy and ruining their families, or dying.

Hooray!

I know!! What part of "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" do these people not understand? I mean, I can get behind a good healthy debate about how to best solve the problem, what parts of the system to rework first, etc., but trying to say there's nothing wrong at all? GAH.
