(no subject)

I'm almost ready to start Book 5 of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series!

It took me *forever* to get through Book 4. Not because it was boring, or because I'm a slow reader, but because I just *knew* that something reallyreally bad was going to happen and I couldn't bear to read it, because as long as I hadn't read it, it hadn't *actually* happened and maybe the text would magically change or something. So I'd set it down and then not pick it back up again for days. lol

And something bad did happen. I will not reveal what, for people who haven't read the books yet (read them!) and it made me mutter dire, evil, nasty things about King. But then I got to this line-- "Oh Christ," Eddie said. "I left the world I knew to watch a kid try to put booties on a f*cked up weasel. Shoot me, Roland, before I breed."-- which will make no sense to anyone who hasn't read the books (read them!) but it made me giggle and I decided not to mutter dire, evil, nasty things anymore. Until something else bad happens.

Meanwhile, I have 2,000,000 books gathered on my floor waiting for me to read them. You think I'm kidding. I have a very small path cleared from my door to my computer chair. One of these days I'll type out a list of some of them, in case anyone's curious, and/or wants a further window into my bizarroid brain.

And I just got a new VHS from amazon.com, Naveen Andrews and Marisa Tomei in My Own Country. I will probably watch that tomorrow, or Wednesday.

Or I'll be bad and stay up late watching it tonight, even though I have work in the morning.

I just hope it isn't sad. I *loved* Drowning on Dry Land and didn't regret staying up to watch it, but if I watch this and it depresses me, then I'll have to find something cheerful to read/watch to take my mind off it, and I will never get to bed.

Decisions.

:-) I'd been wanting to read them for a while, but I ordered myself to not even start until the series was finished. Because it usually drives me *buggy* to start reading a series and not be able to read it straight through from beginning to end (though this hasn't stopped me from reading Ed McBain's 87th Precinct series, or Lawrence Block's Matt Scudder novels).

I read the first one years ago and didn't like it but by the sounds of it, I should have kept going.

Yes, keep going!! The first one's definitely not my favorite one in the series either, but then he hits his stride and by the third book it's like, "Ummm, work?? What's work? I want to sit in my room and read all day, darnit".

And I'll make a list soon. Hee. Will post it once I'm done!

Honestly... and I hate to say this.. but i think the books go downhill from wolves of cala on. I'm currently on Song of Susanah.. and i cant tell you how many times i've wanted to throw the book across the room for the cheesiness.
