Negroponte as national intelligence director???

Sometimes I already think I've gone as far down the rabbit hole as I possibly can, and then a whole new part of the tunnel opens up.

Wait...what the hell is a national intelligence director? Is this one man who has authority over the NSA, CIA, etc.? That's...not good. More bureaucracy is not the answer!

And I think National Intelligence Director (or whatever the heck he'll end up being called) is some new post Bush is creating.

Why am I incredibly not surprised about that one??

You know, I saw an interview quoted over at commondreams.org the other day. A couple of years ago, when Negroponte was appointed ambassador to Iraq, several human rights groups freaked out. Negroponte's wife was asked about her opinion on them, and she said, "Haven't those people moved on?"

Me-- *inarticulate rage*

Either this guy honestly did not know that there were death squads going around killing dissidents (in which case I sure as heck don't want him as any National Intelligence Director) or he knew and condoned it. Either way, the relatives and friends of the people who died are just supposed to 'move on'?
