Waiting for Ian to go to sleep

Criminal Minds

01. The first character I fell in love with: Elle

02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Jason Gideon. I was a little standoffish with him at first, but then the episode with the two killers (brothers, I think) in the woods, and he comforted one of the killers when he was dying because at that point he wasn't a threat, just a human being in pain, and he didn't ignore that out of a sense of vengeance.

03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Oh man I just blanked on his name. Penelope's boyfriend? I'm on-again off-again with him.

04. The character I love that everyone else hates: Probably Elle. I see a lot of "feminist ball-breaker" stuff associated with her. Which would be why I don't hang out in the fandom at large.

05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Hm. Don't really have a character on there that I don't like.

06. The character I would shag anytime: Spencer. Because he's adorable.

07. The character I want to be like: Penelope. She's such an amazing character, holding on to her joy and sense of self in a job that you'd think would break her.

08. The character I'd slap: Morgan, but only when he was going over to that one woman's house and insisting it was something he'd do for any family member of a crime victim. And even then, I would probably just roll my eyes at it, but then he snapped at Penelope when she called him on his self-delusion. At any other time, I love Morgan.

09. A pairing that I love: Morgan/Penelope. Though their friendship is awesome enough that I almost don't mind if the show never takes it there. And I know that she's married and all, but a teeny part of me still loves the whole Spencer/JJ thing that they seemed to be playing with at the beginning of the show.

10. A pairing that I hate: Can't think of one. Not a ton of pairings on the show.

11. Favorite character: Cannot decide this. On to the next question.

12. My five favorite characters: That's better. Sortof. Penelope, Spencer, Morgan, Prentiss, and Hotch.

13. My five least favorite characters: Does not compute.

14. Which character I am most like: No idea.

15. My deep, dark fandom secret: Don't really have one.

Supernatural

01. The first character I fell in love with: Dean. The smart-alecks get me every time.

02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Castiel.

03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Hm. Ruby near the end of her run, I guess? The manipulation and everything skeeved me out so much that I couldn't really enjoy her one-liners like I once had.

04. The character I love that everyone else hates: Judging from what I remember from my brief journey into fandom, that would be Bela. I loved her so much and I hated how the end of her storyline was done. Feh.

05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Not any characters who are still around that I don't love. Can I say that I don't love how there are very few of the main cast left?

06. The character I would shag anytime: Dean, or John. Sam would be on the list, but he has creeped me out one too many times.

07. The character I want to be like: Ellen. In the "absolute badass" sense, not in the "eventually loses everyone she ever loves" sense.

08. The character I'd slap: Well, I think practically everybody on the show has had a slappable moment. Don't know.

09. A pairing that I love: I really liked Sam with Sarah. I know, Season 1 episode, she's never been back, etc. And I think if they'd been able to work more with Bela's character, eventually Dean/Bela could've been interesting.

10. A pairing that I hate: Dean/Jo. The vibe between them always struck me as more brother/sister than lovers.

11. Favorite character: Again, not picking. Can't.

12. My five favorite characters: Dean, Sam, Bobby, Ellen, and a tie between Mary and Castiel.

13. My five least favorite characters: I suppose it would probably be cheating to put YED and Lilith and whatnot here, wouldn't it?

14. Which character I am most like: Dunno.

15. My deep, dark fandom secret: ???

And he is still not asleep. Oh well. If he keeps up with the insomnia, maybe I'll do one for Firefly later. :-)

New show of shininess

Criminal Minds.

I am so. in. love. with this show right now it's not even funny. Chris and I have mainlined Season 1 and part of Season 2, and the only reason we're not pulling all-nighters getting through the rest of 2 and 3 is because of pesky things like work and having to feed the baby.

The main thing that attracted me to the show at first? They get it right. How wonderful is that to see in a show about profilers? I've been reading John Douglas and Mark Olshaker's books since I was about thirteen (much to the worry of my parents, seeing as I would get beyond upset at some of the cases I read about). So whenever anything about profilers comes up I usually pounce at it, only to generally have to recoil in "Did you people not do one bit of research?!" annoyance. But oh, the writers here did! They talk about the different kinds of rapists and show the profilers getting into the criminal's shoes and walking through the crime and the empathy they have and just . . . huge geeky squee from yours truly.

They don't have "OMG the twist is that the woman lied about rape/the woman has actually been sexually assaulting people for completely specious reasons/guess what-- little kids did this! SHOCKER" crap! ((CSI: this is why I stopped watching you. Also why I never got into any of the SVU genre))

And the characters. Garcia is wonderful and snarky and flirty and I need to memorize all the episodes so I can start answering my phone the way she does. She and Morgan shine when they play off each other and I practically bounce up and down when they have screen time. Gideon is just . . . I don't know. He's just the type of person I want to get a hug from when I've had a rough day. I'm starting to bond with JJ more in Season 2 now that she's getting more to play with, and out of all of them Hotch is the one I have the least connection with, and given that I reallyreally like him instead of feeling ambivalent like I usually do for at least one character in an ensemble? Yeah.

Also, Spencer. I have no words for how completely awesome he is. I switch constantly back and forth between wanting to feed him cookies and wanting to pounce on him because he is just so freaking adorable. Love.

Emily I'm still working on, since she hasn't been part of the ensemble for long yet. But Elle? I saw waaaay too much of myself in Elle. I've always been fascinated by the job of profiling but I knew it wasn't for me because I would get too involved, and most likely would end up playing vigilante at someone who I knew deserved it. That way lies bad, bad things, so I stick with just ranting at the bad guys on my TV screen. ;-)

But just . . . SHOW. I love the way everyone plays off each other and the way they obviously care for each other.

Also, I need show-related icons. Preferably one that says, "I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome Garcia is".
