When Donald Wildmon, everybody's favorite cracked-out wingnut fundie, saw the Naudet brothers' documentary 9/11, he was worried for the children. Terrible tragedy, the almost-onscreen death of Father Mychal Judge---the gay chaplain of the FDNY---the sight of the first plane crashing into the World Trade Center, the terror of the people weeping on the street---these were the things he was horrified about, right?

Nope. But more on that later.

Nope, Wildmon was worried about the swearing. Like, OMG, in the midst of a national tragedy, some firefighters used bad language! Death and all that--that's okay. But bad language? Horror!

And one of the commenters-- [livejournal.com profile] berkeleyfarm-- posted a quote from the Reverend Tony Campolo, whom I hadn't heard of before, but I'm going to have to check out some of his books now, solely because this quote is just an absolutely perfect sum-up of my feelings on the whole "eeep! Bad language!" thing:

"I have three things I'd like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don't give a shit. What's worse is that you're more upset with the fact that I said shit than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night."

And speaking of 'for the kids'-- a baby was kidnapped from my town last night. He was stolen by his father, who's abusive. The kidnapper's name is Robert Roe, the boy is 8 months old, his name's Nathaniel. More information on it here. I'll post updates as I hear about them.

I've seen that guy around town. My husband knows him; he grew up in his hometown.

ETA: The baby's been recovered and the jerk's in custody. :-)
