She turned four on the 17th. I am still having a difficult time believing this.

It occurred to me on the drive home that right now the kids don't care if I do things like turn the radio way up and sing along to Heart's "All I Wanna Do is Make Love to You". But someday . . . someday they will be in middle school.

And then my revenge for the current 4+ years without a full night's sleep will begin.

So Chris's cousin gave the kids a little toy truck that plays either "Low Rider" or "Sweet Home Alabama" when you push a button on the front. Ian's sitting here playing with it, and when he starts to hear "Sweet Home Alabama" he'll push the button again to turn it off, then hit it again to turn on "Low Rider", and start dancing around and waving his hands. Goofy kid.

So for the past several nights while we were visiting family, I had to put the kids to bed-- get Ian settled; get Kaylee to lie down; go fix Ian a bottle when he woke up; tell Kaylee to lie back down because I wasn't getting up to do anything fun, no really kid, you're not missing anything; wake up at least three times during the night when Ian started squawking; settle Kaylee back down; and then what do you mean it's morning already? Fun times.

So tonight, Kaylee is asleep early. Ian is conked out on the couch. I can go to bed early and get some rest!

And I am not tired at all.

I hate you, body.

Ashley's going to be here later this afternoon and she'll head out again on Wednesday. It's good timing, because Chris is working night shift tonight (4 until 2 a.m.) and then his next shift starts four hours later, 6 a.m. to 4. Fortunately this doesn't happen often.

The lady who works our local Parents as Teachers program just left . . . she saw me at Braum's and asked if I was in the latest community theater production, since she recognized me from other ones. I said no, because I was too busy with the kids, and she mentioned the PaT thing. It seems like a pretty good program so far, and she got on great with the kids. Ian even let her hold him, which I was really happy with (he's in his cling-to-mommy stage right now). And Kaylee charged around the kitchen and tried to answer questions: she asked when Kaylee's birthday was, and before I could answer Kaylee shouted, "I'm three!" :-)

Otherwise known as my parents' anniversary. 39 years today! :-)

Ian stayed up until midnight night before last. So last night, instead of trying to get a little more sleep, what do I do? Stay up until 2 a.m. mainlining the entire first season of The Walking Dead. I'm so smart.

Day 22's charity is Rescue Ink.

From their website:

"Rebel, originally named "Ribbons" because of his tattered, shredded ears, was found as a stray in Kentucky. The ligature marks on his legs and nose, as well as his severely infected, pus-filled ears, suggested he had been used as a "bait-dog" to train fighting dogs in a suspected dog-fighting ring. Rescue Ink swooped in and, with the aid of Animal Rescue Flights, flew Rebel home and offered him a new lease of life as the official Rescue Ink mascot.

With his scarred face and muscle-bound body, Rebel is a shining example of an animal's ability to forgive and live in the moment. He is a daily reminder of Rescue Ink's mission."

Kaylee hamming it up for the camera:

And, because it's family tradition, here's Ian:

Daisy is our oldest and our littlest cat-- 7 years old, never got much over 10 pounds. She's our Halloween kitty, pure black, and she rules the house.

I was crashed out this morning with Ian sleeping on one side of me and Kaylee sleeping on the other. Ian started squeaking and wiggling, pulling his feet up the way he does when his tummy's hurting. And Daisy peered up at him, made the same low "mrow" sound she does when she's hunting pieces of paper for her imaginary kittens, and then hopped up to stretch out next to him. And he settled right down. :-)

Since he was several days late and my doctor was getting a little concerned, I was induced at 4 in the morning on May 25. But everything went fine, and Ian was born at 3:09 in the afternoon. :-)

So I told mom a couple of weeks ago that we'd chosen the name Ian Christopher for the May Baby.

For the past few years, mom's been going through the diaries she's kept ever since she was a teenager and transcribing them onto the computer.

How these two things are related? She just told me that she found a diary entry from about 1979, when she and dad were starting the whole 'so should we have kids soon or not' talk. She wrote in some baby names she liked, one of them being Kristopher Ian.

:-)

Goals

So I'm working out a list of "Things to Get Done Before Ian's Born":

1) Put In the Darkness Find Me up on my website.

2) Finish the decorative paintwork on the upstairs bookshelves.

3) Complete a revised edit for both Jia's Charms and its sequel.

I just got one thing-- rewrite the solely-my-character parts of Eight Ruby Slippers for Charlotte in the first person-- done tonight. :-) And Chris and I found a wall-mounted pot rack for a good price, and he also built a shelf out of scrap lumber and hung it on the kitchen wall, so we gained some cabinet/counter space and were able to reorganize the kitchen a couple of days ago. Another checkmark.

So, three things to get done before late May. I think I can handle that.

The May Baby is officially a little brother. :-)

They're remaking Swiss Family Robinson!

Not really much in the way of details yet, but as long as they either 1) get rid of Roberta's character altogether or 2) at least write her as far less insipid and for pity's sake cut out the brothers acting like she's a fragile delicate twee thing as soon as they discover she's a girl, I will be the happiest camper in the world. ((yes, I know it was made a while back and I try to make some concessions for that, but when it's that obvious? Bleh))

Which reminds me, I need to find a copy of the book for Kaylee and the May Baby.

Went to see the doctor yesterday; she gave us a preliminary due date of May 20. :-) Going back in a couple of weeks and she's going to do a sonogram to see how things are going so far and to "make sure there's just one in there".

Seriously, so many people in our families have made jokes about twins that it's starting to make me paranoid.
