Not too long ago [livejournal.com profile] zombres did a Top 5 post, and one of the subjects was Favorite Fiction Tropes. I absolutely could not resist that one, so here are mine:

1) Father/Daughter, No Relation

Favorite Example: Artie and Claudia on Warehouse 13. Their interactions have me in a constant state of Dorky-Clapping-and-Grinning when I watch that show.

Example of Mine: Jaren and Thiare from Karavan's Dawn.

2) Epic Quest

Favorite Example: The Stand. Always and forever The Stand. I remember lugging that enormous book around middle school and not even caring because I *had* to find out what would happen next.

Examples of Mine: Stealing Time; Jia's Charms; Karavan's Dawn; And This is Fate; Atmidos, to an extent. I think Pale Moon is the only project of mine where Epic Quest isn't used. That might change between now and publication. ;-)

3) Enemies Becoming Friends ((or at least starting to grudgingly respect each other))

Favorite Example: Jake Lonergan and Col. Dolarhyde in Cowboys and Aliens. My love for that movie is all-encompassing. I need fanfic and icons. And a chance to morph myself into the movie and pounce on Daniel Craig.

Examples of Mine: Simon and Finn in And This is Fate.

4) "Have you ever been with a warrior woman?"

Favorite Example: Beckett & Castle. Castle definitely has his badass moments, but when it comes right down to it, Beckett's going to be the one drawing a gun while Castle asks if anyone in the room's heard of a little something called diplomacy. I think she's physically braver than he is, but he's emotionally braver. Which is partly why they balance each other out so well. Why isn't Season 3 out yet I need my fix

Examples of Mine: Jaetina & Kynn from the Karavan series; Stace & Finn from And This is Fate; Maia & Xavierre from Stealing Time.

5) Threesomes (no, not that kind**)

Favorite Example: Zoe, Wash, and Mal from Firefly

Examples of Mine: Kynn, Ki'Rana, and Trader from the Karavan series; Finn, Stace, and Simon from And This is Fate; Persephone, Iris, and Hades from Atmidos.

**except when they are-- Maia, Nayara, and Xavierre from Stealing Time

New idea

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Say it with me now: Firefly.

I miss shows like Quantum Leap, too (do not get me started on that ending. Ffffft.) but at least they had endings. Had a good run and got to tell a bunch of stories. Firefly barely got started, and there was so much potential there.

Yes, the movie, but it's far from the same thing. I would've much preferred another season or two (or eight. Not that I'm greedy).

Also, since my brain's been wonking out on me and I've had sporadic updates lately, I think I'm going to try and answer these little LJ-writer's-block prompts every day for a week, and see how that goes.

1) Show off my shiny new icon.
2) Say that my best friend is a corrupting influence. ;-)

That is all.

. . . you glance at the headline "Revelers pack Times Square to greet '07" and at first read it as, "Reavers pack Times Square to greet '07".

Firefly cookies!
changeyourstars8: (My fandom)
Have a mini-linkspam:

Serenity Tales. [livejournal.com profile] finniscs pointed this out to me; the Notes on a Fridge (on a Spaceship) series is my favorite. *s*

Nice little essay on math/science skills, and the importance of not 'playing dumb', etc.

Just for fun. :-)

Having a good day. Got up early to work on a fun story (and I even got a bit of NaNo written after I got home from lunch with the in-laws). Going to work on it some more, but I just found a new artist and have to share. :-D

First, some doodles.

Portraits of the characters in chibi-style:
Mal, Zoe, and Wash.

Kaylee, Jayne, and Inara.

River, Simon, and Book. (Oh man, River's expression in this one. *giggles*)

Single portraits:

River

Mal

Jayne

And, my favorite:
Zoe
*wants to draw Ki'Rana looking this utterly badass and cool*
*cannot*
*cries*
changeyourstars8: (LOST)
Have a present:

LOST vid, set to Defying Gravity from Wicked-- Danielle as Elphaba, Claire/Alex as Glinda, Sayid as Fiyero. 'Tis fun.

Hm. I need a Danielle icon, come to think of it. She needs to be on the show more often.

ETA:

That was done by the same vidder who made this little gem:

LOST/Firefly crossover.

And this one:

LOST Musical Extravaganza

Because you haven't lived until you've seen the plane crash set to "Time Warp". ;-D

We got Ashley hooked on Firefly last night. Hee. The first episode finished and she turned to us and said, "You guys are evil. Now I have to buy another series!" ;-) She says her favorite character is Zoe.

I stayed up until midnight watching the pilot, which was really smart seeing as I had to be in at work at 6:00, but hey.

It's been a good morning-- working on a really fun story; saw a little picture/episode description snippet in the paper for Christian Slater's guest spot on My Name is Earl (I meant to start watching that show because I liked Jason Lee in Dogma and Big Trouble, but my memory is crap. Will watch tonight, though); going through Firefly again . . . I say all this so my little note for proper behavior at work will make sense:

1) No matter how good of a mood I'm in, I should not sashay when I walk.
2) Especially not when I'm humming.
2a) Yes, even if it's "Dancing Through Life".
3) I should not switch from humming to quietly singing without realizing it, either.

Because you know what kind of look you get then?

You get this look. )

Yeah.

KiraNaLisanto= yours truly
JadeLynxWS= [livejournal.com profile] jadelynx

KiraNaLisanto: Don't know how much you use myspace, but I thought you'd appreciate this: Nathan Fillion's new profile.
JadeLynxWS: Cool
KiraNaLisanto: I'm debating about whether to make an idiot out of myself in the 'comments' section or not. ;-) How're you doing?
JadeLynxWS: I'm also having the same debate. How does one go about saying "I dream about you at night" without sounding like an idiot?
KiraNaLisanto: Hee!
JadeLynxWS: *g*
KiraNaLisanto: *sigh* No, self, you cannot type "Boy was I wishing that I was Evangeline Lilly yesterday" so think of something else
JadeLynxWS: *g*
KiraNaLisanto: Okay, so I posted, and as I'm sure I sounded like a huge dork, I will now scurry away back to livejournal. LOL
JadeLynxWS: Ah, that wasn't too dorky
KiraNaLisanto: Yay. lol
KiraNaLisanto: You should've seen me when I met Trey Ellett in NYC. I was standing there waiting all, "Okay, I'll say this and this and ask this question about the performance, no problem" and then he walked up to me and I squeaked, "Hi?" and held up the camera. Geeeez. ;-)
JadeLynxWS: Trey Ellett.... the name rings a bell but I can't place it
KiraNaLisanto: He played Mark in RENT for a while. I wish he would've played him in the movie, too, because I thought he did a much better job.
JadeLynxWS: There are only a handful of stars that I'd get all googlie over, but Nathan Fillion is near the top of the list *G*
KiraNaLisanto: Mmmmm-hm. :-D
JadeLynxWS: Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin and Nathan Fillion are definitely up there at the top
KiraNaLisanto: Ohh, if I ever met Alan Tudyk I think I'd be bouncing around squeaking for a year. Love.
JadeLynxWS: Yeah, I was a huge fan of his before Firefly, though, so that might be why he tops my list
KiraNaLisanto: I adored him in A Knight's Tale. :-)
JadeLynxWS: I might get squeaky over Sean Maher, I'm not sure
JadeLynxWS: I'm not lusty over him like I am over Baldwin, though, and have nothing else to link him to than Firefly, so while I'd adore meeting him, I think I could maintain composure *G* I'd probably pop something to meet Gina Torres though
KiraNaLisanto: LOL Yeah, the whole 'lusty' thing does add a new level of "Oh god, I'm about to say something stupid." Chris said that he wants to be with me if I ever meet Christian Slater just so he can laugh as my "Hi, I'm a big fan of yours" comes out as, "Hi, I want to climb you like a pole".
JadeLynxWS: ROFLMAO
KiraNaLisanto: I told him that if I did say that, I was going to blame him. From the afterlife. Since I'd die of embarrassment right there. (that made him laugh, too. He's so mean) LOL
JadeLynxWS: LOL, I love your husband
JadeLynxWS: That comment made Troy laugh, even *G*
KiraNaLisanto: *S*
JadeLynxWS: I wanna be present if you ever stumble upon a Lost cast grouping.
JadeLynxWS: You and more than one hotty from Lost would be just fun *G*
KiraNaLisanto: Boy, would that make for an America's Funniest Home Videos entry
JadeLynxWS: *G*
JadeLynxWS: I can just see you, "Hi, I'm... um somebody... and you are just ... ::drool:: "
KiraNaLisanto: "Meet to nice you my Stephanie is name."
JadeLynxWS: I would imagine that they must be used to it by now, but I bet it's always amusing *G*

This is why I love Charm City Cakes.

You have no idea how tempted I am to order one of those for my next birthday. :-D

Was watching the episode of Dead Like Me called "Rest in Peace" last weekend, and I thought the girl in the record store looked vaguely familiar. She had more screen time later in the episode, and I realized-- "Oh my god, it's GothKaylee!" Too cool.

Then I found out that Jewel Staite also had a recurring role on a short-lived show called Wonderfalls, from the same guy who created Dead Like Me. Yay for the fact that my parents own it, too.

We've watched two episodes (out of fourteen) so far; it's very weird and fun. And the woman who plays the main character's best friend played Joanne in the movie version of RENT. :-)
changeyourstars8: (Pretty floral bonnet)
For all the Firefly fans reading this, but esp. for Debi, who's mentioned that she loves Jayne. :-)

Character analysis: Hero of Canton
changeyourstars8: (Pretty floral bonnet)
*sitting at desk, typing happily* "Umm . . . wait a sec. Did that stack of papers move?"

*peers down, sees good-sized spider clinging to a bookmark* "Eee!"

*leaps up, pokes at bookmark, nothing. Picks up large book and slams it onto the stack of bookmarks. No sign of spider body in wreckage*

*reminds self that Mal and company would not be afraid of an arachnid. They would say sarcastic things about the spider, hunt it down, and then Jayne would shoot it with Vera*

*can't help but notice that it would be easier to find a spider on board Serenity than on this wreck of a desk*

Yeah. If you need me, I'll be over here whimpering in the corner.
changeyourstars8: (Pretty floral bonnet)
There are some days when I just know that the world is a perfectly lovely place. How am I so sure? Evidence is given in the form of a Firefly/LOST crossover video. :-D
