Weird Al

New DVD out of his latest concert (Alpocalypse) is out and we just rented it-- Devin's over, of course, since I got him into Weird Al almost before he could walk. The best thing is that Devin *looks* a heck of a lot like Weird Al; all he needs is the curly-hair perm, really. And an accordion. ;-)

He did find a small flashlight and start waving it like a lighter when "Spiderman" started playing, and now Ian's trying to imitate him.

I have most of Weird Al's stuff, but not the entire discography. Must change that soon.

So Chris's cousin gave the kids a little toy truck that plays either "Low Rider" or "Sweet Home Alabama" when you push a button on the front. Ian's sitting here playing with it, and when he starts to hear "Sweet Home Alabama" he'll push the button again to turn it off, then hit it again to turn on "Low Rider", and start dancing around and waving his hands. Goofy kid.

I am sorely tempted to do a full soundtrack for my Greek Pantheon series just so I can put in April March's "Chick Habit" for Zeus's theme song.

"What was the #1 song the day you were born? Google the date and #1 song and then post your #1 song on your LJ - preferably with a Youtube vid!"

I kinda love this one. :-) Expanded it to include some other people in my family:

Just heard the cast recording of Don't Stop Believin' (thank you, Pandora radio. And yes, I know I'm way behind).

If the show has more performances like this, then clearly I'm going to have to just buy it when it comes out on DVD and have it be my Happymaking Cotton Candy Program.
changeyourstars8: (Sweeney Todd)
She adores the Sweeney Todd soundtrack. I was singing the Johanna reprise song to her this morning and she was grinning like crazy. Giggled at the "Mischief! Mischief!" part. Next up: RENT. :-)

For further proof, here's a normal everyday conversation in my family. After watching I Am Legend, Devin read the book , and then this happened--

Devin: "I want to live alone in a world that's been taken over by vampires. That'd be awesome. I could run around naked all day."
Me: "Yeah, on the list of 'mental images I did not want', that one's pretty high up there."
Chris: "The poor, poor vampires."
Devin: "What? They wouldn't be awake. Unless I started singing karaoke."
Chris: "Naked Karaoke in Vampire City. There's the new Sci-Fi Channel original."
Devin: "Cool. Steph, write it. Anyway, I'd leave 'em alone, so I'd live."
Me: "Oh, b.s. you'd leave them alone. . ."
Devin: "Okay, yeah, I would draw mustaches on them while they were asleep."
Me: "Kid, if vampires ever took over you wouldn't even know about it because you'd be holed off in your room playing video games. Then they'd kill you."
Devin: "Long as I finished the level, I'd be cool with that."
Mom: "Devin."
Devin: "What?"
Mom: *shakes head and wisely goes back to her book*
Devin: "I still want to run around naked, though."
Me: "I'm sure there's a nudist beach somewhere that wouldn't kick you out."
Dad: *comes into room* "Um, I should be glad I missed this conversation, shouldn't I?"
Chris: "Very."
Devin: "Maybe at graduation. . ."
Mom: "Devin!"

It is a bad, bad thing for me to be alone in the house for too long. First I sing along to my CDs while I write/netsurf. Which isn't too abnormal.

Then I start reading interesting stories out loud. Also not too bad-- I can use the excuse that I'm keeping my vocal skills up for if I ever audition for something again.

Then I start quietly talking to myself. Then not-so-quietly. Then I start answering.

Although on the good side, at least my near-lifelong fear of someone breaking in while I'm home by myself is probably something I can dismiss. Because I can just imagine that scene:

Burglar: *sneaks inside, pausing when he hears--*
Me: "Now there's a Lost theory I like. And hey, someone else actually mentioned the fact that while Charlie leaving the ring in the crib was sweet, it's also a bit of a choking hazard, really, and . . . heh. I wonder if they gave a background story involving a ring to that actor on purpose. Hm. Where else do I need to check . . . ooh, more theatre news. I need to get back to NYC to see more plays sometime-- oh come on, you know you can't afford that. Especially now. And England is so very much out of the question, I know Ewan McGregor's going to be playing Iago later but the point still stands-- hey, love this song!" *sings*
Burglar: *slowly backs away*

My brother had never seen the Nintendo chorus, so I showed it to him, and one of the sidebar links was this. I love a cappella stuff. :-)

Also, as long as I'm posting music links: Here, have a broken brain.
changeyourstars8: (True Romance)
Dad gave me his old MP3 player since he got one with more space on it . . . I think I can fit about 80-90 songs. This will be fun. :-)

Also got a hole puncher and a couple of brads, so I can get my screenplay ready to send off.

Spent most of the day cleaning, getting our old house ready to sell. We'll be painting tomorrow.

Right now, though, time to go watch some movies and relax.

Indeed I am. :-D

Ten minutes after I made my last post, I went downstairs and we started the next to last episode-- and what song do they play over the recap but "Carry On Wayward Son".

Me: "Eeeeeee!!!"
Chris: "Yeah, those were my eardrums. They'll be missed."

This actually happened once before . . . I was looking forward to seeing Hard Rain, and my cousin was visiting and playing one of her Jars of Clay CDs. It got to the song "Flood" and I said, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if they played this somewhere in the movie?" I nearly forgot all about it until I was sitting in the theater, and that song started playing over the end credits.

But back to Supernatural . . . gah, cliffhanger of doom! The writers are evil. *begins the long, impatient wait for Season 2 on DVD*

Kinda spacey today. Been listening to this song on repeat; it's basically a sum-up of my mental state lately. "Waitin' for the Light to Shine", from the musical Big River.

I have lived an undirected life
A cloudy way, I know
The only way I knew
So the things I've done
In fact each and every one
Are the way that I was taught to run
I am waitin' for the light to shine
I'm waitin' for the light to shine
I have lived in the darkness for so long
I'm waitin' for the light to shine
Far beyond horizons I have seen
Beyond the things I've been
Beyond the dreams I've dreamed
Are the things I've done
In fact each and every one
Are the way that I was taught to run
I am waitin' for the light to shine
I'm waitin' for the light to shine
I have lived in the darkness for so long
I'm waitin' for the light to shine. . . .

A couple of days ago I was visiting with mom and dad, and Chris calls to say he's on his way to pick me up. A few minutes later he pulls into the driveway, rap music blaring. I start to make a face at him, and then he grins and flashes a peace sign at me as I realize the 'rap' is actually Weird Al's "White and Nerdy". ;-)

Also, today is my brother's birthday. I'm still utterly unable to process the fact that my kid brother is now seventeen. Oy.
changeyourstars8: (Don't mind her. . .)
Working on two good stories + singing along to The Jeep Song = SuperPoing status.

Be afraid.

Be very afraid.

You know what I like about being home by myself? Dancing/singing along to "My Girl". *turns up radio* :-)

You want to know the best way to think you must've ingested a metric ton of alcohol without realizing it?

Sit at the computer for a while, radio on as background noise. . .

And then this song comes on.

Have a present:

LOST vid, set to Defying Gravity from Wicked-- Danielle as Elphaba, Claire/Alex as Glinda, Sayid as Fiyero. 'Tis fun.

Hm. I need a Danielle icon, come to think of it. She needs to be on the show more often.

ETA:

That was done by the same vidder who made this little gem:

LOST/Firefly crossover.

And this one:

LOST Musical Extravaganza

Because you haven't lived until you've seen the plane crash set to "Time Warp". ;-D
