Sweeney Todd
Jan. 14th, 2008 10:42 amOkay, before I get into how much I absolutely and completely adored this movie, here's one of the trailers we saw at the beginning. I told Chris, "I don't even have to see that first, I'm just going to buy it."
In Bruges
Now, I hadn't heard any of the music from Sweeney Todd before and I only had the slightest idea what it was about, so I basically went in blind. It was sick and twisted-- my kind of musical. ;-)
Had heard that some people were complaining about how graphic the violence was and yeah, it was violent, but the fact that people were bursting into song every other minute kindof kept me from being able to take the throat-slashings very seriously. (and the juxtaposition of that murder montage with a song as pretty as the Johanna duet was perfect)
Johnny Depp needs to be in more musicals, and that's all there is to it. Chris and I stopped off on the way home to buy the soundtrack.
Also, I want to play Mrs. Lovett now. Or at least raid Helena Bonham Carter's costume wardrobe.
And the final shot of the movie . . . absolutely gorgeous, in a morbid and creepifying way.
The day it comes out, we're buying it. :-)
