I haven't really read them. We have some of the original paper backs that I bought in a lot of books, and my husband and a good friend of ours (also male) read and enjoyed them, BUT they commented a LOT on the sexist and racist aspects of the books and discussed how much of Fleming's personal bias was showing through versus just the attitude of the times. So yes, that ABSOLUTELY is an aspect of them, and it might be TOO off putting for a lot of people. I read a lot of pulp sci-fi that is VERY dated when it comes to gender, sexuality, race, etc and I personally am able to filter it (although I haven't read the original Bond books), but I have experience doing so.

One thing they both mentioned is that Bond is much more flawed and monsterscary in the books than he is in the original movie series, and that the current Bond is more akin to the books!bond, where there's something DEAD inside of him. He's a monster in human clothing, kind of soulless, broken and pretending to be whole.
