I've read The Magician's Nephew, and most of Wardrobe.
And I'd never heard about the incident before I read a story about End of the Spear, but now I really want to see the movie and learn more about them (I think the son of one of the missionaries wrote a book about it which is what they based the movie on), because the reactions of the missionaries' families just amaze me.
