Because I had fun yesterday, I went to a different dollmaker this afternoon.

Also, have a Kaylee doll.

In honor of the fact that Kath and I are starting to work on the We Were Strangers series again, I present you with this:

This can also honor the fact that I didn't get any actual work done yet. I swear that dollmaking site is holding me hostage. Send help. Or, failing that, send chocolate.

This is a neat idea.

And this time I can blame [livejournal.com profile] awritersfantasy for my utter lack of productivity today. ;-) Go here to make some of your own.

Part of this entry under the cut due to questionable language. :-)

Snarking aside, I did have a nice thing happen today-- a guy I know came up and asked how the book signing went, and said that he really enjoyed We Were Strangers: "No, seriously-- I don't normally sit down and read, especially fantasy, but that one was good." Cue huge dorky grin on my part. :-)

What a rainy weekend. That's why I haven't updated in the past couple of days; every time I wanted to get online it was storming, and the couple of times I did get online it was storming again within ten minutes.

Anyway, the book signing went really well. I was terrified, but it went well. :-) Sold six books, two of the first one and four of the sequel. I still have several copies left, so I'll think about it and decide whether that's enough for the arts and crafts fair or whether I should buy a few more of each before June/July. (I can never remember what month the fair is in. lol) And someone asked about the book covers (they said they especially liked the one for Unexpected!), so I got to talk a bit about Warsheep Productions.

And, to celebrate our refund from the IRS, Chris and I got some DVDs from amazon.com. (with the refinancing sometime next week, we'll be able to pay off the credit card, which means we can actually freely use it again! 'Freely' meaning 'completely responsibly and no I will not buy 244 character portraits at once, honest'. ;-))

We bought the DVD of Long Way Round. Watched all seven episodes yesterday, and the special features are on the list for sometime today. That is seriously what 'reality' TV should be like. Far too many favorite moments to list them all, I just know that I need to watch it again. Soon. Then maybe I'll be capable of a more coherent review.

We also got a couple of other things. A TV show, and a certain movie that follows said TV show. Kath, Debi, three guesses and the last two don't count. *G*

Eeeek.

Book signing at the college library is day after tomorrow.

I'm quietly freaking out . . . I mean, I'm completely prepared and feeling fine.

Okay, so some mixture of the above.

I'll have five copies of We Were Strangers and nine copies of Unexpected available for sale there.

I made up a little card advertising my website-- going to print out a bunch of them on laminated paper Thursday afternoon.

And I did a count of projects completed/current projects--

Books Kath and I have completed: 8

In-the-works: 2

Books I have completed: 4

In-the-works: 2

Now I just need to figure out what section from the book I'm going to be reading.

Just got off the phone with one of the workers at the college library-- the staff there want me to come in sometime in April to give a local-author presentation.

I agreed (of course) but I'm already getting butterflies. It's weird; I shouldn't get nervous about speaking to a room full of people. And I'm not, really, when I'm in a show and reading someone else's words. But when they're my own, I get jittery.

Things to do:

1) Find out if this is more of a 'chat with a local author' thing or a book signing or both
2) If the latter, get some more copies of Unexpected to sell
3) Pick a section from Unexpected to read
4) Check and see if anyone on eBay is selling confidence yet

Here's what I've been doing all afternoon-- uploading reading material. I haven't put up links on my website to any of these new pages yet; figured that I'd give the people on my friends list first reading opportunity. ;-)

The first chapter of We Were Strangers.
Purchase information is also on this page.

The first chapter of Unexpected.
Purchase information is on the page for this one, too. This is the sequel to WWS, so the chapter does contain major spoilers if you haven't read the first book. :-)

Heaven Must Lose
A horror story that I wrote about three years ago.

And I put up four background stories for various Karavan characters:

Kynn and Anabel

Thiare

Va'Heta and Ki'Rana

Anabel

Hope you enjoy the stories! ((and Debi, if you and Mary would be interested in making illustrations for any of these, let me know! :-)))

Guess who got another rejection slip in the mail yesterday?

I was over at my parents telling them about it, and I said, "Well, apparently the book's 'an interesting manuscript with a lot of potentially interesting details, just not right for us at this time, but good luck and I hope you keep us in mind for future submissions'", and Chris said, "You know, the scary thing is she only read that once." And I grinned and said, "I've read it a bunch of times."

I think that's an author's rite of passage or something. Get through the twenty million rejection letters, and maybe you've got a chance.

But, in the spirit of getting back up on the horse after it's tossed you into a thorn bush, I'm going to

1) get some work done on my website
2) gather some new material to post after I've gotten a paid lj account (for those of you interested in reading the first chapters of We Were Strangers and Unexpected, some background stories for a few Karavan characters, and a horror story I wrote a couple of years back-- you're in luck) ;-)
3) after that's done, look through a directory of agents that Kath sent me a while back and start in with the query letters.

This just got posted over at Warsheep Productions--

A larger version of the Unexpected book cover.

((the book itself can be purchased here.))

The sequel to We Were Strangers is now available at iUniverse.com, the Barnes and Noble website, and amazon.com.

I'll be spending part of the day putting up promotional buttons all over my website and in my lj user info, and then sometime next week I'm going to buy an ad in the local paper. :-)

Ashley sent me some pictures that she took of me and Chris out at the lake, including a funny one with me clinging to Chris's shoulders after I obviously just about took a header. (insert joke about how you always knew I was unbalanced here) ;-)

Grandma gave me a cute card, and a check for 100 dollars. Put this together with the fact that I just got a Paypal account, and... *evil laughter* So the sequel to We Were Strangers will be published as soon as we finish with the final edit, and I'll be ordering a character portrait or a scene or *something* from Warsheep Productions just as soon as I figure out what the heck I want to order first. LOL

Mom and dad gave me the latest Robert B. Parker novel and the last 87th Precinct book. Also, The Deal, a new Christian Slater movie. They know me so well. *G*

And as a mini present to myself, I am listening to my warm-fuzzies song ("Independent Love Song" from Bed of Roses) on repeat at a very, very loud volume. Zone.

I declare this a good birthday.

I'm feeling particularly useless today. LOL I was trying to figure out what book to edit when dad called and told me there was a TV movie based on one of Ed McBain's books on at noon, so of course I watched it . . . and then another one in the series was on right after it.

So, now late afternoon. Maybe I'll write some notes or something while I'm waiting for Kath.

I want to see Serenity, and A History of Violence. So guess which two movies are not playing at our theater. :-P Maybe they'll come in next Friday. *fingers crossed*

Dunno. Just feeling spacey. Probably need to go fix something to eat. Finished the first draft of my latest novel a couple of days ago, and I always feel kindof 'now what?' after that. Not going to go back and work on it again for a little while, because it was really dark and nasty and freaky. So, something more cheerful up next.

Found a letter from the credit card people, the one asking for photocopies of ID and whatnot so they could process our application . . . dated August 22. After they got the ID, they said, it'd take about a month to come up with an answer, so any day now. I'm checking mail religiously, because either way I want to publish Unexpected and order character portraits and go on amazon.com and do bad, bad things. lol

Anyway. Food. Yeah.

Help, I've found another online addiction. LOL One of the members of a Lost journal made some dolls for the characters, and I've been fiddling with the program for the last couple of hours.

Here's me....
