I'm not a huge fan of country music. There are some artists I listen to, and Kath sent me a tape of country/bluegrass once that I liked, but for the most part . . . no. The fact that the radio playing in the back at work is always tuned to a country station does not help matters. The same nine or ten songs, over and over for hours, when I only liked maybe one of them to begin with anyway. . .

I have been subjected to Lonestar, people. And I haven't dunked the radio in the sink. I feel this should qualify me for sainthood.

Today I heard some song where this lady was twanging on about how she was on the side of soldiers and the Bible and loved the flag and so she didn't get any respect. Which got three reactions out of me (well, four, if you count the eye twitch):

1) Yeah, your point of view isn't respected at all-- that's why the churches have been shut down, the Pledge is illegal, people won't vote for a President who's not an atheist, and soldiers' funerals are being protested by sane people instead of a nutjob and his equally nutjobbish relatives.

2) We PC people, by and large, also respect our soldiers. Many of us are even Christian (judging from polls saying that's the religion of the overwhelming majority in the USA), and like what the flag stands for. Don't tell anybody, though; it tends to ruin our evil image. ;-)

3) If she "can't get no respect", I'd hope it's because of her grammar. It's "incorrect", not "uncorrect". Eeesh. (okay, this one I would've let slide if not for the previous two, and the twanging. Ow. But this is what comes from having English majors for parents-- I have seen mom raise her eyebrow at the radio when "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" comes on. Hee)

This has been your Daily Snark. Tune in tomorrow, for . . . well, actually, I don't think I'm going to be snarky tomorrow. Maybe Wednesday. :-)

Yeah, I find that song really puzzling because they announce that they're for all these things like they're in some sort of oppressed minority...And many of the things they're for I don't think very many people are rabidly against. "The single Mom raising her kids?" "The farmer with dirt on his hands?" Also I think that if they're *really* for the working man they should start voting Democrat and can't resist telling them so every time I hear the song.

FYI, it's actually a duet by Gretchen Wilson and "We don't burn no draft cards down on Main Street" Merle Haggard...I'm willing to listen to and even enjoy a lot of country, but this song is really really awful, I agree.

So, yeah. I share your pain.

Oh man. Gretchen Wilson? As in, the "Homewrecker" song? Darned if that doesn't explain a lot (yeah, very much not a fan of that one. Big surprise. lol) Merle Haggard I don't know a lot about, but I'm guessing from that quote I wouldn't be enamored of him, either.

Exactly!

I know what you mean! I don't like that song. I don't like much of today's country at all, but I like quite a bit of classic country music. I don't understand how people like so much of today's country, and I'm from the south!

Okay, if I can stop staring at your icon long enough to actually reply. . . ;-)

I agree, there's very little modern country I like. Except when it comes to making fun of it, anyway. Heh.

I was walking through the back room a couple of days ago and heard part of a chorus that went something like, "Why does it always come down to you leaving before I say I love you? When I know how much it hurts you, baby, why do I do that to you?" Me-- "Hey, is this song titled, "Because I'm a Jerk Who Can't Learn from Past Mistakes"?"

My poor coworker nearly choked on his coffee. ;-)

lol! Yeah, that's the same reason why I also don't like Bon Jovi - so many of the songs are about some guy treating his girlfriend/wife bad and trying to make up for it again and again. I think Bon Jovi actually did some song with a country artist recently, so I guess it all ties together, lol.

Yes, he did-- "Who Says You Can't Go Home", which I have heard Nine. Hundred. Million. Times. Aieeeeeeee

I like some of his stuff, but the main ones I listen to are from the Young Guns II soundtrack (I adore "Bang a Drum" and "Miracle", which never get radio play). Now that I think about it, the ones I don't really care for are the ballads-- which are of the "yep, did the same thing to hurt you yet again. Sorry about that" tone. Never really thought about that before. lol
