Okay, so Debi and I are having this fun discussion about musicals and singing and roles and whatnot, so I thought I'd open it up here:
If you sing (or even if you don't, we're fantasizing here so it's all fine), what musical roles would you like, and why? I'll go first:
Elphaba from Wicked: "Defying Gravity", "Loathing", "For Good", "No Good Deed", "I'm Not That Girl"-- need I go on? :-)
Lucy from Jekyll and Hyde: I want so badly to stand on stage and perform "In His Eyes". So badly.
Dulcinea from Man of La Mancha: I just adore her character so much. And the finale still gives me goosebumps.
Mimi from RENT: As if the songs weren't fun enough, I'd do it just for the opportunity to learn how to dance like that. Heh.
Your turn. :-)

Date: 2006-05-26 12:44 am (UTC)Lily from "The Secret Garden": Okay, really, I want to go back in time to be young enough to play Mary, but Lily is good too.
Florence from "Chess": Chess being my other favorite musical...I like Florence's balance of cynicism and vulnerability and her songs are awesome. "Heaven Help My Heart," "I Know Him So Well," "Nobody's Side"...and lots of arguing songs with the other characters! "I must protest, our delegation has a host of valid points to raise / our player's sporting attitude's beyond all praise as any neutral would attest!"
Eponine from "Les Mis": You know, I feel bound to put this thanks to the amount of time I spent singing along with her parts on the Complete Symphonic Recording when I was in high school...though I think now I would find it a little hard to pine for stupid Marius with the same enthusiasm.
Nancy from "Oliver!": Okay, Nancy really needs to wise up and leave Bill Sykes and it would be hard to sing "As Long As He Needs Me" convincingly while keenly aware of this. But I can't resist the call of Victorian London and Dickens! And it would be fun to dance on the tables during "It's A Fine Life" and "Oom Pah Pah."

Date: 2006-05-26 12:49 am (UTC)I have a Linda Eder CD where she sings "Anthem"-- that's the only song I've heard from the musical so far, but I absolutely love it. :-)

And is it strange that I'm replying to this here while we chat in IMs?

Date: 2006-05-26 01:43 am (UTC)The baker's wife from Into the Woods. "Moments in the Woods" is just... awesome.
Though if we're getting unrealistic, then I'd love to do Cinderella, or Rapunzel from it, too. :D
Eponine, naturally. What chorus girl geek doesn't want that chance?
I'd love to do Godspell, though I'm unsure which part does it, I just adore "By My Side".
I haven't gotten into Wicked yet, but I'm thinking that I'd want to do that, too. Ideally, WITH Steph. :D
Hmm, now I can't recall all the parts we discussed. Have to think about it some more :D

Date: 2006-05-26 02:01 am (UTC)Yeah! I can play Elphaba, you can play Glinda, Ewan McGregor can play Fiyero (hey, if I'm dreaming over here I'm going to go all-out). ;-)

Date: 2006-05-26 02:07 am (UTC)I think so-- but then, I'm a fairly low alto, so things that aren't fully soprano probably sound that way to me. LOL
Oh wait, we're dreaming... I can do soprano if we're dreaming. :D
Exactamently. *heads off to fantasize about Ewan McGregor singing "As Long As You're Mine" some more* (seriously, wait'll you hear that song. ohman)

Date: 2006-07-10 04:34 pm (UTC)I'm gonna have to say that we're gonna have to argue over the part of Elphaba. Well, and over Ewan McGregor for that matter. :D
But yeah, you were right. "As Long As You're Mine" is amazing. So is "Defying Gravity". Man. I also finally replaced my broken Moulin Rouge cd, so between the two of them it finally pushed on me enough and I've put in a request for info from a local vocal trainer. Hee.

Date: 2006-07-10 05:10 pm (UTC)And yeah, "As Long As You're Mine" and "Defying Gravity" are my two favorite songs from that soundtrack. With "What is this Feeling?" completing the top three. *S*
