Inspired by a post by spectralbovine. . .

Been meaning to do this for a while, and now I actually remembered. Amazing. ;-)

Anyway, the meme is-- ask me one question about me, my lj, whatever. And in return, post one fact about yourself.

Question: How in the hell did you manage to become a published author, and what was the genesis of the story?

Fact: I was issued a criminal trespass warning by the University of Houston campus police. (I don't think it shows up on my record anywhere, though.)

Answer: Fangirl geekiness. ;-) I used to be a member of a Christian Slater fanclub, and one day we were discussing our hobbies and I mentioned writing. Another woman there said, "Really?" and we got to talking about it and exchanging stories, and now she's my best friend and we've written about eight or nine novels. We Were Strangers, our first one published, is the first one we worked on.

As for how-- I found out about a self-publishing house called iUniverse that looked interesting, and Kath and I decided to give it a shot. We're still looking for an agent and sending out query letters so that we can hopefully get the kind of published that means 'they pay us', but right now it's just awesome to know that people can buy something we've written. *s*

And that fact sounds like it has an interesting story behind it. lol

Oh, it's one of my favorite stories of all time. Maybe I'll post it on LJ one of these days.

They sell your book on Amazon, though. Don't you get anything from that?

Cool!

And for every book that sells, we get a small percentage. But considering how much it costs to self-publish (not a horrible amount, but still) it'd take a heck of a lot of copies sold to even make that money back, let alone get an actual profit.

That icon is so perfect for lj-land, by the way. Hee.

Isn't it? As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to have it.
