There's a post about abortion below the cut. I am pro-choice. If you think something I say might upset you or you don't like the topic, please do not click. Thank you. :-)

Utah is now added to South Dakota on my list of 'states to never go near, ever'.

Incest is no exception to a father's right to know what's going on in his daughter's life.

That was the message from Utah lawmakers who refused Monday to make an exception for incest victims in a proposed law that would require parental consent and notification before a girl's abortion.

....

"Abortion isn't about women's rights. The rights they had were when they made the decision to have sex," Buttars said. "This is the consequences. The consequence is they should have to talk to their parents."

Exactly! These slutty girls should've thought about the consequences before they made the decision to let their fathers rape them.

There are seriously no words. And this isn't a topic I bring up very often in my lj-- in fact, I think this might be the first time I've done it-- and that's because I don't feel like debating where this is concerned. I am pro-choice, anti parental-notification laws (most teenagers will talk to their parents about something that important, and if they choose not to, there just might be a good reason for that. You can't legislate good family relationships), and those are two issues on which I will not compromise.

I hear about cases where women are publicly humiliated for trying to get their birth control prescriptions, and that's just the start of what these people are trying to do, and it scares the hell out of me.

Today might just be the day I join the ACLU. I don't know. I need to do something.

This one of those areas that makes me, someone against abortion, stop and go "What the...?"

Okay, if abortion is legal, which it is, then what are anti-abortionists doing trying to do when creating this idiocy. Dad rapes daughter (doesn't matter if she "consented" or not, if a father is having sex with his kid, it's rape). Daughter gets pregnant. Dad should get to decide if she aborts said baby or not? What the hell? Here is a kid that obviously can't go to her dad and say "Hey Dad, I screwed up, I was in love and I went too far in my relationship and made a mistake and now I need help fixing it." This is a kid who probably should be removed from the family's house altogether! She not only doesn't need to be informing her father of this particular thing, she shouldn't have to speak to her father for ANYTHING!

This isn't about women's rights or babies' rights or anything like that. Disallowing a rape victim the option of anonymity from their rapist is more cruel than abortion, and it could very well be more cruel than the rape itself. If a girl comes in and says "I'm pregnant, it's my father's" then that girl's parents should lose all rights to have anything to do with it. Have her become a ward of the state until the situation can be fully checked out. If it turns out to be a false accusation, then let the girl pay the consequences of *that* later. Incest should always be a case of action first, ask questions later.

Oh, and don't join the ACLU. They are just as bad as the religious freaks in some of the things they do. Just start writing well written, thoughtful letters to the people that need to hear it. Congressmen, Senators, etc. Let your voice be heard and don't be silent. You don't need the backing of a group that develops the mob mentality to make a difference.

That's another thing-- if they're trying to disallow abortion in the case of rape, what's next? The rapist himself getting some parental rights? Joint custody?

I'd really better stop. I think the above sounds paranoid (at least I hope it's just paranoia, because otherwise my faith in humanity is going out the freaking window), but some of these freakbats would probably just nod and think it sounds like a grand idea. ::shudder:: I swear I'm moving to Mars.

All this stuff begins to worry me because I envision a situation like in Demolition Man where physical sex is outlawed and you have to have it through a VR machine.

I'm sure these people think that laws like this are sending a message, but it's not sending the one they want to send. It's all just sad.
