Spoilers are, of course, under the cut.

A Very Supernatural Christmas

Awwwww. *hugs the boys*

And I have to wonder exactly what type of hunt John was on that he wasn't able to get home.

Also, weirdly, that whole scene with the little kid watching 'Santa Claus' go upstairs and then the screaming and his father getting dragged back downstairs . . . that sequence disturbed me more than most anything else I've seen on this show. Don't know if it was because it was from such a young child's viewpoint or what.

Malleus Maleficarum

I was kinda worried, given Dean's way-too-frequent usage of gendered insults this season (Dean. I love you like crazy, but Cut. That. Out. Geez) to have an episode centered on a coven. And there were some moments. But in the end, love, because

1) Ruby saving Dean's butt and having a completely wonderful, "And exactly why am I doing this?" look on her face
2) The scene has come up in several movies/shows where someone gets attacked and the girlfriend/female bystander (usually girlfriend, though) just stands there and goes "eek" and does absolutely nothing useful. Drives me up the wall. But in this case, I was fully prepared to give the would-be witch a pass because hello, demon. She had every right and reason to just cower in a corner. And instead, she got into the middle of things and tried to send it back to hell. Now that's brave.
3) I liked learning more about Ruby. Now that I have a better sense of where she's coming from, I've moved from 'can take or leave this character' to actually liking her.

Dream a Little Dream of Me

First off-- Dean, I'm sorry, but you are not allowed to go into Demon Mode anymore. With John it was fun in a creepy way, and Sam was kindof evilly cute like that (yes, I am well aware that I have Issues) but Dean was just disturbing. GAH.

Bobby also clearly needs a hug.

Also, as much as I love Bela to death, I am entirely sure that she can pull things over on the boys without them acting like idiots first. Do not let the smart, tricky thief see exactly where you're keeping your valuables. Yes, it's a safe. But she'll figure out a way to get into it (see: smart, tricky thief). Oy.

Mystery Spot

My love for this episode cannot be properly put into words. I was bouncing up and down in my seat when I realized the Trickster was back.

Dean's first death freaked me out, the second one was also disturbing and I was all, "Stop killing Dean already you are making me sad" and then it got to, "Do these tacos taste funny to you?" and I was laughing so hard I couldn't see. I love you, show.

And then I felt a little guilty about laughing because aww, Sammy. But a few minutes later I was all, "Sam did know that it was the Trickster as soon as he walked into the room, right? He wouldn't seriously consider killing a random person to get his brother back . . . right?" And I love that I'm entertaining that kind of doubt about someone I looked at as the moral center of the show during the first season. Yay shifting character dynamics. :-)

Jus In Bello

Bad things first:

Normally I'm not one for specific spoilers-- having a general idea of where a season's going, fine, but I don't like episode-specific spoilers much. But somebody please comment and tell me that Victor's death was a fakeout. Please?!?!? *does best impression of Sam's Puppy Eyes*

I get that not all character deaths are going to be one-episode people and all, but c'mon. Victor was a great adversary and had the makings of an absolutely kickass ally and and-- rrrr. Uncool.

The whole 'oh, of course the virgin is the pious obviously-religious girl' was a bit of a cliche, but I'll say it balances out because of the bonus points they get for not making her character a 'do as I say, not as I do' holier-than-thou hypocrite of some sort.

Happy at hearing the name Lilith, because I love all the variations of her story. Not so thrilled to see them using a child for her character because 1) scary evil little kids aren't usually my thing, and 2) the story of Lilith usually has something to do with sexuality. Her getting kicked out of the Garden of Eden because she wouldn't submit to Adam, etc., or on the other side of things there are horror stories about her being a succubus, so . . . yeah. Casting her as a kid brings up automatic squick feelings, but I'll see where they go from here.

The good-- I loved their way of dealing with the "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" dilemma. And Ruby earned more awesomeness points from me, because as much as I could understand Dean arguing with her that they were not going to sacrifice an innocent person to the cause, Ruby wasn't only talking about Nancy. She would've been murdering herself, too. She wasn't asking anything of anyone else that she wasn't prepared to take on.

(Seriously, Victor is not dead. Or he will at least come back as a helpful-but-sarcastic ghost. Right?)

Ghostfacers!

Loved this one. The look at Sam and Dean from an outsider's perspective, the little skulls over their mouths when they cursed (which made for a lot of mini-skulls). . . hee.

And oh man, I just realized I only have three episodes left. Then it's waiting until Season 4 comes out on DVD. Aieeeee

That Santa Claus scene was, yeah, totally creepy.

I'm glad you liked the witch episode! For some reason, the fandom hates that episode. It's more misogynistic than usual or something.

"Mystery Spot" is great, hee. Tacos.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. That is all I am saying.

"Ghostfacers" is a hoot, isn't it? Man, now I want to get the S3 DVDs. I was going to wait until I found a good deal.

Hmmm. Well, Dean did get a few more chances to use his 'hi, I'm going to call you this because you're a girl' insults, what with a coven and Ruby being in the same episode. And while I'm not a fan of that by any means, I can deal because the show isn't treating it like he's right.

I mean, he calls Ruby a bitch and makes nasty comments about the coven, but Ruby ends up saving him (and telling him to shut up with that kind of talk while she's at it) and the women in the coven aren't OMG eeeeeeevil or anything; they had the very human desire to 'get rich quick', as it were, and were manipulated by something they had no idea how to deal with. And one of them did her level best to fight it off anyway.

If the show had taken a different tack, had Ruby abandon them when they needed her or had every single member of the coven act like a stereotypical bimbo so they could play it up all, "See? Dean is so right! Those silly bitches!" I would be pissed. But they seem to be treating it for what it is: a flaw in his character.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. That is all I am saying.

Umm . . . that's not very reassuring. LOL
