Am now avoiding sleep, since we just rented Paranormal Activity. lol

Seriously, that's horror movies as I tend to like them-- no big CGI monsters or people running around in costumes or little girls with long black hair, just bizarre, creepy stuff happening that's never fully explained, with more focus on atmosphere than on special effects.

Up next on the rental list: 500 Days of Summer. Just for some contrast. ;-)

*cough* It makes me go all capslocky squee. Seriously, JGL is so freaking adorable AND it has MGG being not-Reid in a wonderful way. Also Zoe Deschanel is adorable too. I love it. So much. Sooooo much.

Yeah, the cast is definitely what first drew my interest and it seems like the storyline could be fun, so looking forward to it! Will probably make a post after we watch it later this week. :-)

It's the suspense and build up that gets me. I don't particularly give a crap about gore, but it's the fear of the unknown or what's under the bed/in the closet/in the dark that makes me cover my eyes and whimper a lot.

Exactly! As weird as it sounds, if the kid brother comes over and we rent horror movies that are more of the gory type, I'll just sit there and munch on junk food and joke around, because I know if it's bloody it generally won't scare me.

I think it was Stephen King who said something about the benefits of not showing the monster behind the door, because you can build up all you want but if you show it and it's a ten-foot monster, people will jump and then say, "Oh thank goodness, I thought it might've been a hundred-foot monster." That the imagination is always worse than anything you can put onscreen. I adore movies that run with that idea.
