I hope abruptly changing antidepressants isn't going to cause any problems. This isn't my idea; our insurance was switched at the start of this year, and the new provider won't approve Cymbalta because it's not on record that I tried cheaper alternatives first. ((my doctor at the time tried one of those sample Lexapro packages, and when it didn't do the job, gave me a Cymbalta one. I never tried anything else afterward because that one, y'know, worked. Gah))

So now I feel like a science experiment-- "From one day to the next, the subject will go from 60 mg Cymbalta to 20 mg Celexa. Let's see what happens!"

Oh, eff the insurance companies. WHAT THE EVER LOVING HELL??????

Just randomly switching anti-depressants is a TERRIBLE idea and anyone who knows the first thing about pharmacology knows that. Ridiculous.

FWIW, the Celexa worked great for me but I had to be on a *really* high dosage (more than double the recommended dose).

Yeah, by the time we got it straightened out the pharmacy was about to close, so I've been without my dose today and then tomorrow I take something new. It's going to be HappyFunTimes in my brain soon, I'm sure. :-P

Tell me about it. Things like this make me want to just shake people, I swear. It's like, "You do realize that a hospital stay for a suicide attempt would cost you a lot more than just covering the medication that is known to keep me from getting suicidal? Logic, people, logic." Feh.

steph- i currently work in a pharmacy. i don't know if the switch was or has been successful. You could possibly see if your doctor would contact your insurance for a prior authorization. Its pretty much a pain in the ass, but when it is done you can get your cymbalta covered for your normal copay. just a thought. =)

Thanks! Fortunately, the switch worked just fine (yay!!), so I'm going to stick with the Celexa.
