Everyone I Ever Was and Everyone I Ever Will Be

Those things are so addictive. Or maybe I'm just weird. :-)

So now you get to be subjected to my random babbling! Aren't you lucky.

Tomorrow I think I'm going to finish up my first draft of Redemption, so that is awesome. We went and bought some lumber today to finish up the garage (yay tax return!) And then I worked on the checkbook and realized that I switched two numbers and we actually have 15 dollars until payday, not 115. (boo math skills!)

You can tell it's spring, because the ants are trying to move back into our kitchen.

I am taking my attempt to focus on more positive things seriously. I got rid of some of my horror books that, while good, put me in a depressed mood or freaked me out in a "the entire human race sucks" way. And I'm actually starting to buy 'chick lit'. I think Ashley believed I was lost the last time we were in a bookstore together. ;-) Not that I don't still love my werewolves and zombies, but I'm going more for sarcasm/slightly dark/funny than soul-crushingly depressing.

Which of course means I have an idea for a really dark horror novella. But I figured out how to work on it-- I'm going to write scenes while on car trips, and that way there's always something distracting at the end of it, and I don't spend too much time at once immersed in that headspace. Win-win.

I think sometime soon I'm going to organize my tags better. Have a tag for each one of my novels, go through and have a bunch more specific tags rather than have 300 things lumped into 'random'.

I'm going to do one more "30 Days of" thing, I think. I do like that format; it reminds me to actually post more than once every two weeks. This theme-- cybercasting!

Yep!

Connor from Redemption has a cat named Charlie. Connor adopted him when he was an adult cat, and he has issues from a previous owner. He somewhat tolerates Connor, but if anyone else comes into the house, their ankles are fair game.

Thiare from Karavan has three kittens. In her universe, strays at space ports are a huge problem; people will make impulse purchases while visiting a planet and then leave the new pet behind when they realize how much work it is, or they'll dump litters because they figure with so many people passing through, someone will take them in. That 'someone' would always be Thiare if she had the time and room.

Abigail from Pale Moon has a giant squirrel (it's a long story).

And I just realized that out of the common domestic pets, none of my characters have a dog. I should rectify that. I like dogs, but I've always had cats and I'm much more familiar with their brand of oddball aloof affection.

So I've been concentrating lately on notes/general plotline for an upcoming novel (that I'm not planning to write for quite some time, but when the plot bunnies attack . . . yeah). It involves religion, in a 'war between God and the Devil' kind of way, and some people I know, including my husband, are worried about me seriously offending people if I wade into this particular topic.

Which got me worried about offending people. I've never really dealt with it that much in my books before, and there's so much information out there, and what if I got something wrong, and yada yada much worrying about something I don't even have an outline on yet. ((not to mention the fact that this would be assuming 1) It's any good when it's finished, 2) Someone actually publishes the thing, 3) It sells beyond my family/friends. ;-)))

And then I realized . . . it'd be a fiction novel dealing with religious themes. Of course it'd irritate somebody! So instead of worrying about it, focus on making the futuristic world created in it as realistic as possible, make sure things stay plausible in the confines of that world, and have fun with it.
