I'm remembering to watch the Oscars! What that means is, run in here and type during commercial breaks. Expect this post to be edited a lot over the next few hours. :-) I will lj-cut eventually, don't worry.
Preshow, let me just say that Rachel Weisz is totally the one I'm rooting for for Best Supporting Actress-- loved her performance in The Constant Gardener, and just in general everything I've seen her in.
If Rachel Weisz by some chance doesn't win, then Michelle Williams better.
And since those are the two movies I've seen that they've talked about so far, off to check out the TV again.
Okay, a couple of guys are singing something about it being hard to be a pimp. Whaaaaaa??
Other people I'm rooting for-- Reese Witherspoon, Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line was very unfairly snubbed in the Best Picture category, have I mentioned this?), Heath Ledger.
Jane Seymour was carrying this tiny little sparkly black and silver guitar, and I want one.
I want to go hug Heath Ledger, he looks so cute. Okay, so that'd end with, "Ummm . . . security? There's a squeaking girl with frizzy hair clinging to me, help," but hey. ;-) And I love Michelle Williams's dress.
The less said about Tim Burton's hair, the better. O_o
I really do need to see Crash soon. And Capote. And Munich. And...
That was kindof cute. They did a 'star-crossed love' montage to Garth Brooks's song "The Dance" showing clips from The New World, Brokeback Mountain . . . and King Kong. The last choice did have me snickering at the TV, yes.
Oscars themselves behind the cut. :-)
We've got here so far Joaquin Phoenix, Heath Ledger, Rachel Weisz, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Salma Hayek-- I swear, everybody Kath and I have cybercast is going to show up eventually. Hee.
"Tonight is the night we celebrate excellence in film with me-- the fourth male lead in Death to Smoochy." Heh. Love Jon Stewart.
"Bjork couldn't be here tonight-- she was trying on her Oscar dress and Dick Cheney shot her."
And George Clooney wins the first Oscar of the night, for Best Supporting Actor in Syriana. :-) I haven't seen it yet, but I kindof want to . . . I do know, however, that the clip they played from Cinderella Man gave me absolutely no interest in it.
Ben Stiller is dressed like Kermit the Frog. And the skit . . . is not funny. Shoo, Ben Stiller.
That was nice that they played "Walk the Line" when Reese Witherspoon went up to present. *s* And yay Wallace and Gromit!
Oh, the lady who did costumes for Chicago also did Memoirs of a Geisha? I didn't know that, but I love them both. :-)
Narnia won for Best Makeup! I liked the movie; glad it won something.
Rachel Weisz won!!!! *G* And I find it very nice that she thanked the author of the book that the movie was based on.
March of the Penguins: Another win for one of the few movies I have managed to see... ;-) And what is up with the huge bow or whatever that is on the shoulder of Charlize Theron's gown?
I want "In the Deep" to win for Best Song-- that was really pretty.
Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves presenting-- that brings back memories of Speed. lol Granted, I cannot watch that movie anymore because my cousin had a crush on KR when it came out and therefore we watched it 925 million times that summer, but it was fun. :-)
Brokeback Mountain won for Best Score-- I was hoping for either that one or Constant Gardener. :-)
I know there are a lot of jokes about the montages, but I can't help it; I have a sneaking fondness for them.
Are Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin drunk or something? I'm really not finding this funny, either.
Okay, let's see-- it's 9:15, about how much more do they have left? Not that I'm not enjoying it, but I have to be at work at 4:30 a.m....
The third song nominee is so very much not my style of music, so I'm sitting this one out in here. ... and, that's the one that wins. No comment. lol
Jennifer Garner almost tripped on her dress, and suddenly I find myself liking her. :-D
I love Ziyi Zhang's gown. There's no way I'd ever be brave enough to wear something like it, but it's gorgeous.
And we are at about fifteen minutes before I really should go to bed. Can they make it?? Hee.
I'm sure that Hoffman did a good job in Capote (haven't seen it yet) but . . . snark. :-P
Reese Witherspoon won! Loved her speech. :-) And I want to see Walk the Line again, darnit. Last time I checked at Wal-Mart they were sold out; must check again.
And, I'm about to nod off on the keyboard here . . . will post something about the last couple of awards after work tomorrow. Goodnight!

Date: 2006-03-06 01:37 am (UTC)I whole heartedly agree with you on Rachel Weisz though. She was great in the Constant Gardner. I love Reese and Joaquin in Walk the Line...so I'd be happy with either of them winning for sure, but I don't have much basis for comparison. I will have to get renting more movies again!
